Blepharoplasty (eyelid) surgery improves the appearance of the aging upper and/or lower eyelids. Oftentimes, signs of aging such as excess skin and bulging fat pockets can contribute to a more tired or a more harsh appearance of the face.
With age, our eyebrows descend into a lower position and this creates extra skin, eventually this extra skin can fold over the upper eyelid margin and hide part of the eye. This actually can block vision in some people. All of these changes in the upper eyelid create the impression of a smaller, crowded eye.
Wrinkles and extra skin of the lower eyelid are caused by the loss of elasticity of the supporting structures. This eventually can create noticeable fat pads contained in compartments of the upper and lower eyelids become more noticeable. These fat pads may be responsible for the dark circles under the eyes.
In patients with younger tissue who require less, Dr. Samimi also offers laser or chemical peel treatment to the skin around the eyes, as well as Botox to smooth out crow’s feet and smile lines.
